About the Coach...
Followed by Special Message from the Coach...
Brian enters his first season as General Manager/Head Coach with the Toronto Sparta U18 team after spending four successful seasons as an Assistant General Manager/Assistant Coach with the Whitby Fury/Haliburton County Huskies of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. Brian also held the position of Associate Coach/Assistant General Manager with Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Junior Hockey League for 2010-2011 season.
Involved in hockey for over 25 years, Brian has coached, managed, and mentored at all levels as well as held the position of President of the Stouffville Minor Hockey Association for four years. A prominent scout in the Ontario Hockey League, Brian worked with the Plymouth Whalers (2002-2007). During that period, he captured an OHL Championship and represented the OHL at the 2007 MasterCard Memorial Cup in Vancouver. Following his time in Plymouth, he spent 3 seasons as area scout with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL
Brian also has extensive experience in minor hockey at the AAA level, having held Head Coach positions with several OMHA teams including the York Simcoe Express, Barrie Colts, and Markham Waxers. In addition, he spent 8 years in the GTHL coaching with prestigious organizations like the Toronto Young Nationals and Toronto Red Wings. The highlight of that period and his coaching career came in 2002 when his Toronto Red Wing team captured the All-Ontario Bantam Championships - called the OHL Cup at that time.
Brian brings a passion and commitment to his players and each organization he represents. He strongly believes in proper player mentorship, support, and development. He is extremely proud of his past involvement with Team Ontario Under 17 Development as a guest coach/scout for the 2002 and 2003 main camps held at York University and thoroughly enjoyed his time spent as Player Liaison/Recruiter for M5 Sports, a very reputable Sports Management group that represents a large number of players in all leagues – including the NHL. Brian believes it is here that he began to build the solid foundation that has propelled his successful career in hockey as a leader.
Brian's extensive and widespread coaching experience has provided countless opportunities to coach, develop and mentor many past and present players representing the NHL, AHL, NCAA, CIS, Europe and Prep Hockey.
Word from the Coach:
I am extremely excited to take on this new role and have the opportunity to work with this organization and these young men. The end goal of our program is to move players to the next level, with a focus primarily on junior and college hockey. By utilizing my previous coaching experience, networks, and connections I will be able to provide an opportunity for each of our players to achieve their goals academically and athletically. Our coaching staff at Toronto Sparta Academy U18 comes with excellent hockey knowledge, previous pro hockey experience, and a passion for mentoring young players to be their best selves – both on and off the ice.
I am confident that we can open doors for those players who are committed to the goal of playing hockey at the next level. Our group believes that it is not just about making our players better hockey player, but also allow them to grow and become better people through a disciplined and well-structured program.
